Pre-departure

You've received your US Visa and passport back from the US Embassy. Congratulations! This means that you're almost ready to go the US and begin your internship! It is important that you have everything you need before you go, so we have created a checklist of everything you need before you head to the airport!

  • Your Passport
  • Your US Visa and Work Documents (Both already in your passport)
  • Your DS-7002 Training Plan (sent to you by USIT)
  • Your E-tickets (emailed to you by your agent)
  • Health and Safety Card
  • Participant Handbook
  • Proof of Funds – at least $1000 US Dollars in cash/bank statement

Useful Tip: You should make two photocopies of the visa, DS2019 and SEVIS in your passport. Leave one copy with your parents in Ireland and take one copy with you to the US. In the unlikely event that you lose your passport, you will have copies of the documents, which will help you through the process of replacing them. Also, don't forget to leave a copy of your flight itinerary at home, so that your parents know exactly when you will be arriving in the US.

Please note: You may be asked to show proof of funds when going through US Immigration. You will need to show the immigration officer that you have at least $1000 dollars when entering the US. This can be in cash, traveller's cheques or a personal bank statement. Traveller's cheques are quite hard to find these days, so cash or a statement from your bank. may be the best option.
Please note that bank overdrafts or credit card limits are not acceptable.
